Overview

Dr. Ann Coleman Joined the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Glasgow in the UK as a post doctoral research assistant initially with the MBE group then in the Optoelectronics Research Group. Her research work was on monolithic photonic integration of III-V optoelectronic devices using quantum well intermixing and on diode lasers. During her time working there she became a member of the academic staff (faculty) rising to professor. In January 2012 she joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Illinois. She then moved to The University of Texas at Dallas in August 2013.

Currently she is an Associate Vice President (for membership development) of the Photonics Society. Other professional activities include Associate Editor IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics (2007 - 2013), Elected Member of the IEEE LEOS Board of Governors (2004 2006), General Co-chair of Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO): Science and Innovations (2013), Program Co-chair of Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO): Science and Innovations (2011).

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (2008), Fellow of the Optical Society of America (2009). She received the IEEE LEOS Engineering Achievement Award in 2006 for her work on quantum well intermixing for photonic devices.
