About the Program

The Electrical Engineering program at UT Dallas enables students to acquire a solid foundation in the broad areas of electrical engineering and emphasizes advanced study in digital systems, telecommunications and microelectronics. The program specifically provides a solid educational foundation in electrical networks, electronics, electromagnetics, computers, digital systems and communications. Our graduates are uniquely qualified for rewarding and successful careers in a diverse range of electrical engineering fields, including materials, devices, circuits, digital systems, signal/speech/image processing, and communications.

The Bachelor of Science program in Electrical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, abet.org. You can verify our ABET accreditation by visiting: ABET Accreditation. Enrollment and graduation data can be found here.

The mission of the Electrical Engineering Program is to provide excellent education in modern electrical engineering practice.

  • Be effective contributors and leaders in both professional and personal settings.
  • Serve their profession and/or employer in a responsible, ethical, creative and enthusiastic manner to meet the needs of industry and society.
  • Continue to learn and improve through self-motivation.

BS Electrical Engineering Student Outcomes

  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  • An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  • An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Fast Track Program

The Fast Track program is designed to accelerate a student’s education so that both BS and MS degrees can be earned in approximately five years of full-time study. The Fast Track program in Electrical Engineering enables exceptionally gifted undergraduate students in their senior year to include approved master’s level courses as part of an undergraduate degree plan. When Fast Track students graduate with a bachelor’s degree, they are automatically admitted to graduate school at UT Dallas without need to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
