About the Telecommunications Engineering Graduate Program

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Program at UT Dallas offers a master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees in telecommunications engineering to engineers who wish to continue their education.  As an interdisciplinary program, students are prepared for leadership roles in research, development and design positions that require the use of skillful and imaginative solutions to engineering problems.

Our master’s degree program has been carefully designed for students to gain breadth of knowledge in software and hardware of telecommunications, network theory and technology. It is flexible enough for students to specialize in the area of their choice. Meanwhile, our doctoral degree program prepares individuals to perform original, leading-edge research in a variety of subfields of telecommunication engineering such as advanced networks, optical/wireless systems, data communications and fault-tolerant computing; in preparation for academic career or research and development positions in high-technology industries..

Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering Program

Students seeking a Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering must complete 30 semester hours beyond the baccalaureate; (five core courses and six electives). Each student must complete six elective courses, four of which must come from the recommended engineering and computer science electives. Two free electives can be graduate courses offered by the Erik Jonsson School.

Doctor of Philosophy in Telecommunications Engineering Program

Students seeking a Doctor of Philosophy in Telecommunications Engineering must complete minimum 75 semester hours beyond the baccalaureate. Some of our research areas includes digital signal processing, digital communications, modulation and coding, electromagnetic-wave propagation, fiber and integrated optics, lasers, wireless communications, mobile IP, wireless multimedia, DWDM networks, QoS assurance protocols, network design and optimization, telecommunications software, performance of systems, ad-hoc and PCS wireless networks, network security and high speed protocols, fault-tolerant computing and parallel processing.
